I love mechanically injected diesel engines.  They are super reliable.  That said, I've now got one that won't start, I think the fuel injection metering "stuff" is stuck because it sat for about 1 year.   Crap.

After watching hours of Diesel Creek on the tube I've come to believe that any diesel will fire. He's dragging out crap that's been sitting in the woods for 20 years, bleeding the fuel system and they run.

  2. I wonder if some of the HP differences in those years can be attributed to the way HP is measured in the different years. I can recall back in 1993 the Mustang went from 225hp in 92 to 205hp in 93 with no changes other than how it was measured.

  3. I doubt a 30 minute blackout will really impact your EV experience very much. As I was out an about in the frigid weather, I don't remember seeing many vehicles out at all.

Fun fact: Gas and diesel pumps also tend to run on electricity these days and the guy with a gas burner sitting at the station with an empty tank is in just as bad of shape as the guy with an EV and no battery left.

Mmmm....sounds good!    (Wish he'd wear a HANS though...)

He has a HANS system, though not HANS brand. The yellow ropes you see on either side of the helmet go to the release catches for the HANS.

Disney, could you shorten a driveshaft?  When I lowered this truck (6" rear) a squeak developed.  When the engine is under load, the squeak comes from the rear.  I think the driveshaft needs an inch or two cut out of it.  Also, my buddy Ronnie is having issues with his Ford 9" in his Cougar.  Could I get you two in contact so he could talk about it?  He can't find anyone who wants to fool with it.

    Can shorten, cannot balance.

What kind of issues? I just took in a car this weekend that is getting a gear (and everything else in the rear) and some other things. Once it's done I could look at the Cougar.

What if I just drop a block, a crank, and 8 connecting rods off at your house?  😆  I'm not looking to build an all out drag engine.  I'd like a healthy 500-600 horsepower.  Do you think TF heads beat all the others on the market?  I was looking at a crate engine from Indy Cylinder Head (they used to be the Chrysler RB specialists.  May still be.) for about $10,000.  It had their alum. heads and intake.  It supposedly makes around 600 hp.  I figure I could beat that building my own.  Indy's heads are high dollar.

I'm not talking all out drag engine. I'm talking a pump gas daily driver type engine. 10:1 compression. Roller cam under .600 lift (durability, longevity), and "modern" heads (still MAx Wedge design from the 60's). That crate motor for 10K would be nice too. As long as it's under 11:1 you can keep 93 octane pump.

  7. After coming through a study about AEB from AAA today I thought of something. In their conclusions and recommendations, they didn't ever mention maybe trying to pay more attention. Instead they ask why auto mfg's aren't working harder to get cars to where they will detect any car in any situation and avoid the crash. Made me think, if we could somehow figure out a way to keep cell phones out of the cabin, and gadgets off the screen then with all the new safety features and attentive driver's we'd have 200x fewer accidents.

My next great invention: Create a "key" that will require your phone to plugged in the trunk. You'll arrive with a charged phone and your hands and eyes will be free to drive!

  8. She'll be terrible for AZ.

Two weeks ago I was in AZ for work. I went to dinner and stumbled upon a bike cruise in. Talked to some people there and brought up their Gov election. I can say that the bikers I talked to do not like Hobbs. Interesting note, there was a contingent of Hell's Angels present. Maybe 5-6 of them.
