Ashley P
Kevin, if transplanting an engine and ECM, say about 2005 van or Jeep with 3.8, what security hurdles need to be jumped? Where should I look for answers? I didn't sleep well and now I'm pondering a 3.8/6 speed swap into an S10...
Kevin
Why? I'd LS swap an S-10.
Ashley P
Gas mileage. And I think the 3.8 would be more reliable than an LS. I'm talking pre VVT 3.8.
JohnC
No way I'd do that swap. I'd do a small LS. 4.8L or 5.3L I'm sure would knock down over 25mpg's with easy driving.
Ashley P
What's wrong with the 3.8 mopar? Or it's 6 speed manual?
Kevin
There is nothing wrong with a 3.8 Mopar. I imagine it would be a difficult swap. A swap into an S-10 is probably a road that has never been traveled and you'd be the pioneer. If I were worried about gas mileage, I'd get a Tercel.
Ashley P
Physical fitment is easy. I'm wondering how the Mopar guys eliminate (or otherwise adapt) the security/ignition key? If someone has a 2005 Hemi in a 1985 truck, how'd they get around the security (assuming they are using 2005 ECU and engine harness)? Kevin
I've looked into (don't confuse that with full-on research) swapping a 392 into my 1980 D150. People are doing that swap one of two ways. 1. Aftermarket ECU 2. Swapping in the whole shebang (wiring harness, fuel tank, ecu, cluster, etc.) from a wrecked car/truck.
JohnC
LS = easy because it's been done a zillion times and it's cheaper. Mopar to S10, not so much...
Ashley P
I think the SKIM would have to be eliminated from the factory ECU.
Ashley P
https://store.allcomputerresources.com/skimremoval.html SKIM removal from certain years/models for $145.
